A Message from the President of the Board of Directors
“For the community, by the community” is Tex*Rep’s motto. From the first show, The Foreigner, to the latest production, Tuesdays with Morrie, Tex*Rep has strived for excellence. Sorting through 80 shows from Tex*Rep’s history, we believe that we have chosen four of the best loved shows for this special 20th year: Grease, Steel Magnolias, The Foreigner, and Nunsense.
I joined the Tex*Rep community in 1992 when I was the musical director for Little Shop of Horrors. I have enjoyed being the musical director for all but two of the past musicals. Getting to know the cast members of each show, many of whom have become my friends, and each of the band members throughout rehearsals has been an experience in itself.
I have seen my daughter, Laila, grow up in the Stilwell Theatre. From her first role in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever as a 5 year old baby angel to her role as a movement instructor for our annual Drama Camp, I have seen her love of the theatre and Tex*Rep develop.
The 12th annual Drama Camp is scheduled for June 14th-26th. Students of all ages are encouraged to join us for two full weeks of singing, dancing, and acting. We believe that every student is a star at drama camp. Our Community Division is planning another Hopkins Icehouse summer production and a new event, Tex*Rep on Demand, a twenty-four hour play festival.
I hope to see all of you showcasing your talent at an audition, supporting us in the audience, or lending a hand backstage. Although we love seeing veterans returning for auditions, we love to see fresh talent there as well. When we see new faces, we know that we are reaching out to the community; inspiring you to try something that you have never tried before or haven’t done in several years. You, the community, are what makes Tex*Rep run. Without volunteers and supporters, Tex*Rep would not be what it is today. The fact that we are going into our 20th season shows that there are many of you out there that have kept supporting us throughout the years. So thank you for all that you have done. We hope you will continue supporting Tex*Rep for the next 20 years.
