Ever since I was a little girl sitting on the front row of the Stilwell Theatre, I dreamed of being a member and part of Tex*Rep. From being on stage to becoming a member, Tex*Rep has made an impact in my life. Once I returned from college, I knew that I wanted to become President of this wonderful organization that I had called home from the age of 2.
Tex*Rep has not only brought joy to my life, but through its partnership with Texarkana College, students from around the area have been able to experience the joy as well. During the two collaborations in our season, Tex*Rep offers students invaluable knowledge and experience of being on stage or working backstage. Students in Michael Cooper’s program can build their resume beyond what any other freshman can when starting off at a major university in Drama. The students that enter the Drama Department at Texarkana College leave as members of the Tex*Rep family.
Our Annual Summer Drama Camp is a program that has grown leaps and bounds. We just celebrated our 15th year of camp by asking alumni to return to sing the final camp song with us. “Just One Person” from Snoopy encompasses everything that camp is about. I have had the privilege over the past six years to teach Dance to the Level 1’s and 2’s. Every year I am astounded at the level of raw talent of the kids that participate. Every year I am also so moved to see the how far the kids improve in 2 weeks.
The quality of Tex*Rep productions is, what I believe, makes our organization stand out. We strive to make sure that every production that goes up on the Stilwell stage is of the highest quality. Mr. Cooper has the amazing ability to help each actor reach their fullest potential. His passion for Tex*Rep shows in each performance of every show.
I hope to see all of you showcasing your talent at an audition, supporting us in the audience, or lending a hand backstage. Although we love seeing veterans returning for auditions, we love to see fresh talent there as well. When we see new faces, we know that we are reaching out to the community; inspiring you to try something that you have never tried before or haven’t done in several years. You, the community, are what makes Tex*Rep run. Without volunteers and supporters, Tex*Rep would not be what it is today. Thank you for your continued support of Tex*Rep and Texarkana College. I look forward to seeing you at the show.
Tex*Rep President 2013-2014
