A Modern Telling of a Classic Comedy
This modern adaptation of Moliere’s classic brings slapstick levity into the present day, hilariously exploring the dangers of believing despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
Orgon seemingly has it all – money, power, a beautiful home and family. Yet lately he’s been plagued with the pursuit of a greater purpose. He finds just that in Tartuffe a “pious” man with a holistic grasp of the simple pleasures. But is Tartuffe sinner or saint?
After Orgon invites the irresistible Tartuffe into his seemingly perfect household,a whirlwind of deception and seduction is released that threatens the family’s foundation. With Orgon under Tartuffe's spell, can his family outwit this charismatic trickster? Though this mysterious “con man” may, or may not, be quite the villain he appears.
Tartuffe, or The Imposter, or The Hypocrite, was first performed in 1664. This theatrical comedy by Moliere contains the characters of Tartuffe, Elmire, and Orgon which are considered among the greatest classical theatre roles in history.
